Dr. Alex Gitelman specializes in the surgical and non-surgical treatment of spinal disorders. He grew up in Brooklyn, New York, and attended State University of New York at Binghamton. He graduated Summa Cum Laude, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry.
He earned his Medical Degree from State University of New York at Downstate, following which he completed an extensive orthopedic residency at Stony Brook Medical Center. While at Stony Brook, he developed a passion for spinal surgery and management of spinal related disorders. He went on to complete his fellowship in spine surgery at UCLA Medical Center, widely regarded as one of the top spine surgery training programs in the country. His focus of concentration was disorders of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine, as well as spine trauma, spinal deformities, and tumors. Dr. Gitelman has published articles, book chapters and presented orthopedic and spine surgery studies at numerous national and regional spine surgery conferences, including the American College of Spine Surgery.
In his free time Dr. Gitelman enjoys playing tennis, surfing, and snowboarding in the winter. He is also fluent in Russian.
